It's been used for centuries as a tea, natural colourant, and haircare ingredient, a key botanical in both Ayurvedic and Chinese herbal traditions. Native to East Asia, sour tea was traditionally enjoyed to support heart and liver health, stabilise blood pressure, and support overall vitality.

Externally, its infusions were used to soothe the scalp, reduce dandruff, promote growth, and calm skin irritation.
